Making the Case for Fuel-Efficient Tires

by Jim Park, TruckingInfo.com June 2013 You get 30% less tread on some fuel-efficient tires, they cost 15% less up front and they run fewer miles to take-off, but does the money saved on fuel because of the lower rolling resistance make up for the shorter overall life? Many fleets are struggling with that question today. The answer is often anything but clear. But don’t be too quick to blame the tires. Read more…

Green Army: The tactical truck that can achieve 72 per cent better fuel economy for our troops

by Danny Hewitt MotorTrades Insight May 23, 2013 Armies across the world could soon be going green, after an analysis of a defense vehicle project has ‘proven’ techniques for reducing fuel consumption, according to Ricardo. After two years of on-the-ground testing, the Ricardo-engineered Fuel-Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator (FED) has proven to be as good as the simulation models projected. The analysis released today proves that when compared to the US military’s regularly outfitted M1151 HMMWV, the FED experienced a 72 […]

Green tires: Where the rubber meets the road

by Jim Motavalli Mother Nature Network September 17, 2012 AIKEN, S.C. ‚Äî Most of us don’t think about tires much until we either get a flat or they wear out, and then the bite of up to $1,000 or more for all four corners sure gets our attention. Most of all, we don’t think of tires as having anything at all to do with fuel economy, when in fact they make a big difference. The feds recently finalized the Corporate […]
