Labor and environmental leaders praise proposed fuel standards

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, MI ‚Äì A coalition of Michigan environmental and labor groups on Monday praised President Barack Obama’s proposed mileage standards that would mandate a 54.5 mile-per-gallon average mileage standard for light vehicles built between 2017 and 2025.

The new standardswill create 22,600 new jobs in Michigan and 570,000 new jobs nationwide, said Mark Schauer, co-chair of the BlueGreen Alliance Jobs21 Initiative.
